How is Cover different from a traditional temp agency?

Unlike agencies, Cover puts you in control. You choose your shifts, see the hourly rate and your estimated take-home pay before you accept, and view full clinic details up front. No opaque transactions, no waiting by the phone, and no agency taking a cut of your pay. You're employed, not contracted, so there's no ABN to manage either.

Do I really get to keep 100% of what I earn?

Yes! Agencies typically take a percentage of your pay, but with Cover, there are no recruiter fees or markups. The rate on the shift is the rate you're paid, commonly $40 an hour or more, depending on your role and experience. Penalty rates, public holidays and overtime under the Health Professionals and Support Services Award (MA000027) are added on top automatically.

Do I need an ABN?

No. Every shift is casual employment with the clinic, not contracting. You get award minimums, penalty rates and super, and PAYG is withheld for you, so there are no invoices to send and no tax to set aside.

How do I know what to expect at a clinic?

Accepted Answer

Before booking a shift, you can view detailed clinic profiles, including location and access, team structure, and even workplace amenities (like whether they have a microwave for lunch!). No more walking in blind.

Can I choose when and where I work?

Absolutely. You set your own schedule and how far you want to travel. Update your availability anytime, with no commitments beyond the shifts you choose.

Is it easy to find shifts?

Yes! When a clinic posts a temp shift you're available for, it lands in your app straight away with the rate attached, so there's no more waiting for an agency to call.

When and how do I get paid?

Accepted Answer

Pay runs happen weekly. Submit your timesheet at the end of a shift, the clinic approves it, and it flows into that week's scheduled pay run with PAYG, super and a payslip handled for you.

With Cover, you can check out reviews from other dental professionals before accepting a shift, so you know what to expect. If a clinic isn't the right fit, you can simply choose not to work with them again. Your feedback matters and helps us make the experience better for everyone. Is Cover free to use?

Accepted Answer

Signing up and creating a profile is completely free. There are no hidden fees or deductions from your pay. The platform fee is paid by the clinic.

What do I have to provide, and is my data safe?

Accepted Answer

Your identity is verified through our verification provider, and you add payroll details and a tax file number declaration before your first shift so you're paid correctly. Your TFN and the bank account you're paid into are encrypted with field-level encryption, access to them is logged, and a change to your bank details is verified and held for 24 hours before it takes effect. What if I need to cancel a shift I accepted?

Accepted Answer

You can cancel through the app up to an hour before the shift starts, and it reopens to other professionals. Inside that hour the app won't accept a cancellation and you'll need to contact the clinic directly. Shifts not started within 30 minutes of the start time are recorded as a no-show, so tell us if something has gone wrong. See section 6 of our Terms.
